Guest speaker, Matthew Lobsey – son of Ross and Judy
– gave a confident and colourful account of his travels to India with the
Australian Universities hockey team. He described the Indians’ passion for
hockey and cricket as "just amazing". The team was constantly mobbed by
crowds. The opposition’s tactics were not always above board, and he was
occasionally a victim of too much vindaloo and whiskey.

Guest Speaker Joanna Cochran
Spoke of how her and a dedicated band of friends and family took it upon
themselves to bring a bit of cheer to the children in the Woomera Detention
Centre. They had to endure a lot of red tape, many obstacles, and minimal
co-operation from within the Centre.
The point of her talk was that regardless of why these people are here,
and despite the deep divisions within our community, and despite the
political and legal ramifications of their presence, they should be provided
with at least the same basic amenities that our own prison systems provide,
while awaiting an almost inevitable deportation.
Simply put, we provide shade for our cattle and criminals in prisons, why
not illegal immigrants?
Vote of thanks by Brian Thompson
